The event limited series has just aired episode 8, "Unfair Game," immediately picking up with Dexter being held captive by Elric Kane, an employee for Kurt Caldwell, for killing Caldwell's son Matt.
Harrison continues to spend more time with Caldwell, leading up to a potentially deadly encounter , while Dexter's suspicious ex-girlfriend, Angela Bishop, finds out about his connection to the drug dealers from episode 5, and gets closer to finding out who Dexter really is as she investigates the Bay Harbor Butcher case. Before Dexter was abducted by Kane, he was confronted by Harrison about his anger over Rita's death and why Dexter left him, and explaining his desire to hurt people.
Dexter realizes that Harrison is in trouble and escapes from Elric, ensuing a cat-and-mouse chase across the woods. He finally kills Elric at an empty summer camp house and finds out that his son is with Kurt at his cabin. Harrison continues to bond with Kurt and seems to have a genuine connection with him, until he realizes that Kurt is planning to kill him in the same method as he did with the other girls prior.
Dexter arrives in time to save him, but loses Caldwell as he runs away. Harrison has so many questions to ask his father, which he promises to answer. With Angela finding out more every day, and Harrison learning the code, it will be interesting to see how they play into the finale.
On the flip side, Angela is investigating the Bay Harbor Butcher case. We know from the original series how that went down, but Angela is finding more and more similarities between the Butcher and her ex-boyfriend. In addition to that, she begins to question what really happened with the drug dealers from Episode 5. Dexter realized that Harrison was spending time with Caldwell and was most likely in danger. This was true. Dexter star Michael C. Hall said fans of the Showtime series shouldn't expect the upcoming revival, Dexter: New Blood , to be a straightforward continuation of the previous series.
Hall also explained that unlike Seasons , which was set in Miami, New Blood takes place over two weeks in New England. The color palette of the show is different. Every piece of the landscape both externally and internally is altered. Hall also got into the specifics of the reboot's tone, noting, "We're not self-consciously thinking about whether it is less or more edgy, but it's informed by and redefined by a completely different context.
Hall's latest comments about New Blood come shortly after Showtime's President of Entertainment Gary Levine recently admitted the revival would have been made had fans of the original series gotten the finale they deserved.
