The film is a dramatised version of a book by Baghwan.

Gidvani with the same title. Another film version also uses the title "the adventures of Tipu Tippoo Sultan". The story is based on the 18th Century ruler of the kingdom of Mysore in southern India. He was a most eccentric character and is one of India's most famous Indian independence fighters or Patriots. Most of the book and film is based on historical facts and it is well known that the Sultan Tipu Tippoo was a very brave leader who fought not only the British East India company but many of their allies as well.

His reputation for courage and leadership is legendary as is his treatment of his subjects. Due to the historical nature of the film, it is very violent and involves scenes which are certainly unsuitable for children. That said it is a must see film, especially if you are fond of war films or Historical dramas. Details Edit.

One such ruler happens to be Tipu Sultan. Tipu Sultan is widely known as the Tiger of Mysore. Indeed, the image of Tipu battling a tiger barehanded crosses the mind whenever his name is mentioned.

But is this the truth? Was Tipu Sultan truly the warrior as he has been portrayed? What exactly is his record of fighting the British? Was he really a freedom fighter as is widely claimed? Sandeep Balakrishna in this well-researched book, explores both the myths and the truth surrounding Tipu Sultan. A must-read for those who wish to learn the true story of Tipu Sultan. A reckless adventurer or a proud nationalist?

This book cuts through the myths to bring this controversial king and his times come vividly alive, from his youthful military exploits to his death in his final battle against the British. It is a discouraging tale, for its evident moral is that civilisation is a precious good, whose delicate complex of order and freedom, culture and peace can at any moment be overthrown by barbarians invading from without or multiplying within.
